Web 2.0 Tools for Desktop Publishing

In today’s society technology is the next big thing. It keeps growing and growing. There are so many things that can be done on the internet now. There are things that can help with presentations, blogging, saving documents, videos, and editing pictures. These thing are known as web 2.0 tools. I will be listing 10 and describing a little about each one and what they could be good for.

Presentation

Prezi is something that can be used to make presentations. It is common to the Microsoft edition of PowerPoint, but you can be more creative. Prezi is a free tool and anyone can use it. I am not going to say it is easy to use, it does take some time to get used to. I would recommend anyone given a presentation to use Prezi. I would rate it with a high score such as 8 and it functions really well.

Presentation

Google sites would be another web tool that would be helpful for presentations. All you need to use this web tool would be a Google account. Google sites is a little challenging when first setting up, but after you have a plan it is easy. With this web tool it is helpful to break things down into different categories. It is a good program to help make the presentation look organized. I would say there are small glitches, but nothing major that would ruin your experience with Google sites.

Blogging

Blogging is something that is becoming quite popular these days. One good blogging website would be Tumblr. It is a good way to find people interested in things you are interested in. This application is free as well. You can use Tumblr to share ideas and thoughts. People who blog will see there are people are out there who are just like them.

Blogging

Blogger is another great web tool for blogging. I am currently using Google blog and I must say I prefer it over some. I do have Tumblr as well. If you are interested in Google blog, it is free and all you need is a Google account. It functions really well and it is easy to use. You can customize it anyway that you would like. I would rate Google blog a 10 overall because the application is really good and easy to use.

Saving documents

People are always using their phones and tablets in today’s society. Computers are not getting used as much like they used to. People are starting to write their documents on other devices. One way to save the documents would be to use Google drive. It is really convenient and your documents would be save automatically. With Google drive you can pull your account up from anywhere. It has good quality and it is well-developed. People would use the tool to write documents on their phone or tablets. I would recommend it to someone else. Someone recommended it to me and I have not stopped using it ever since.

*Dropbox

Saving documents

Another web 2.0 tool that could be used for saving documents and other material would be dropbox. It is a free application. Dropbox does have packages to where you can buy extra space if necessary. There really are not any issues with dropbox. The only small issue would be that it may take a few minutes to update to the library. I would rate this a 6 because you do have to buy extra space and things do not update immediately. I am not sure if I would recommend this web 2.0 tool to someone else.

*YouTube

Videos

Making videos can be fun. A web 2.0 tool would be YouTube. Everyone is familiar with it. It is free and easy to use. Depending on what you use to update the video, it does take a few minutes to load. That would be the only issues I have with the application. It functions really well and it is well-developed. I would strongly recommend this tool to someone else. I would rate this overall a 10. This could also be used to get tips and ideas about different topics.

Videos

Another web 2.0 tool for making videos would be Pixorial. It is free and well-developed. So far there are not glitches or issues. I would use this tool to make small videos that I could play around with. I would rate this overall a 6 because I have not been using it long enough to get the full effect. I would recommend this to someone depending on what they are trying to do.

Pictures

People like to have fun with pictures. It is another way to tell an amazing story. A web 2.0 tool to use for editing photos would be Picasa. It is really simple to use. The application is free. It is well-developed and Picasa does not have any issues. I would rate this overall a 10. I actually use this application a lot to do different things with my pictures. I would recommend this web 2.0 tool to someone else.

* Photoshop

Pictures

Photoshop would be another web 2.0 tool used for editing photos. This application is one that people know of. Majority of people who edit pictures use this tool. Photoshop is not easy to figure out. There is a lot of time that has to go into trying to edit the picture the way you would like to. There are different options on how to edit your photo and some go into depth. There are glitches time to time with Photoshop, but nothing to serious. I would recommend this tool to anyone who is up for a challenge. I would rate it overall a 6.

These are just a few Web 2.0 Tools to help get people started when looking for different applications to help them with specific material. This blog is all about me. I really do not know exactly what to discuss in my blog. I guess I could discuss my new found love, baking!!! I have been baking for about 2 years now. I love to bake anything and everything. It does not have to be just baking; I like to make desserts in general. When I am upset or not in a good mood making desserts always put me in a good. I love making desserts for special occasions or just to make them in general. After telling a few of my favorite desserts I would give the ingredients and recipes.

The latest creation I made were Oreo balls. There were very messy, but it was really good. I really do not like Oreos, but those I would eat the Oreo balls all the time. I think they would make a good party favor or just to have them.

Ingredients

1 lb of Oreos

1 package of cream cheese soften

1 lb white almond bark

Recipes

Grind cookies to a ground coffee texture

Knead cream cheese and cookies until mix

Roll the mix into a large ball and refrigerate for 45 minutes

Separate into small balls and place on wax paper

Freeze for 45 minutes

Melt white almond bark in a double-boiler 

With a toothpick dip balls in the white almond bark and coat it well

Place on wax paper

Let cool

Then enjoy J

Leftovers keep in the refrigerator

Next, I think my favorite thing to make is brownies. I fell in love when I discovered cheesecake brownies. I think that is my favorite thing ever now. They are very easy to make and anyone who loves cheesecake would love them as well. I think spiraling the cheesecake on the batter who be good for a child to help with.

Ingredients

Eggs

Oil

Water

Brownie mix

Recipes

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees

Mix the mix, eggs, oil, and water together

Then stir until lumps are complete

Spray pan and pour mix in the pan

Set the mix to the side

Mix the egg, cream filling, and water in a medium bowl

Get a spoon full of the filling and place it on top around the batter

Get a knife and swirl the filling around the mix

Then bake for 35 minutes

To make sure it’s done stick a toothpick in the middle

I read this article titled 5 Effects Social Network. I found it interesting with some of the effects that it mentioned. One effect that really stood out and caught my attention was the Photo-taking=Eating disorder. People are taking an interest in food photos. I think it is pretty cool to see different foods and be able to maybe try them out for yourself. Although I never imaged it could turn into an eating disorder. Now that I actually read it and thought about it; there is a 50/50 chance it could happen.

In another article I read it said that social networks could be doing more harm than good. I can see were this could be true, but at the same time it is all about what the person behind the account/network is doing. People should know what is not to be done or what is to be done while being on a social network. Some people just do not have enough since to be on a social site. That is where some type of action has to come into effect to stop the harm in social network.

Social network I feel as become overrated since I have allowed myself to join. I have been a part of the social networking world since I was in the 9^th grade. Here I am a senior in college and so much has changed. People just do not care what they put on their Facebook pages, Twitter, or any other social site. I think people should be considerate about how others might feel seeing something that is out of order. People don’t look at certain situations the say was others. Social networkers also have to be aware and mindful as to who are looking at their pages. Children are into technology and social sites their selves. They may see something that is inappropriate and that could send the wrong message.

Hello my fellow readers! My name is Kelsey Bryant. I am doing this blog for my desktop publishing class. I have always wanted to start a blog, but I feel as if I never have the time or I may never keep up with it. I currently live in Arkansas attending Henderson State University. I am studying general studies. My emphasis areas are psychology, sociology, and education. I have changed my major 3 times, but this time I am going to keep it to general studies. I will be graduating in May 2014 and I plan to further my education at UALR in the fall of 2014. My interest include reading, music, shopping, and hanging out with love ones. I like to read love and mystery novels. I listen to all music; my favorite artist is Beyoncé. I love shopping at all different kind of stores. Being around love ones bring so much out of me and makes me feel very blessed to have them in my life. I am the only child on my mother side, but I have three siblings on my father side. I have an older sister who is currently getting her bachelor degree in radiology. My older brother just graduated from electrician school. He has a little girl who is three and a son who will be one soon. My sister next to me is just working and she has a four year old. I love to travel. I have been to Texas, Kansas, Florida, Oklahoma, and a few more. I hope to be able to travel across the world. I would love to visit Paris, Greece, and Italy.
