Web 2.0 Tools for Desktop Publishing

In today’s society technology is the next big thing. It keeps growing and growing. There are so many things that can be done on the internet now. There are things that can help with presentations, blogging, saving documents, videos, and editing pictures. These thing are known as web 2.0 tools. I will be listing 10 and describing a little about each one and what they could be good for.

 *Prezi
Presentation
Prezi is something that can be used to make presentations. It is common to the Microsoft edition of PowerPoint, but you can be more creative. Prezi is a free tool and anyone can use it. I am not going to say it is easy to use, it does take some time to get used to. I would recommend anyone given a presentation to use Prezi. I would rate it with a high score such as 8 and it functions really well.

*Google sites
Presentation
Google sites would be another web tool that would be helpful for presentations. All you need to use this web tool would be a Google account. Google sites is a little challenging when first setting up, but after you have a plan it is easy. With this web tool it is helpful to break things down into different categories. It is a good program to help make the presentation look organized. I would say there are small glitches, but nothing major that would ruin your experience with Google sites.

* Tumblr
Blogging
Blogging is something that is becoming quite popular these days. One good blogging website would be Tumblr. It is a good way to find people interested in things you are interested in. This application is free as well. You can use Tumblr to share ideas and thoughts. People who blog will see there are people are out there who are just like them.

*Blogger
Blogging
Blogger is another great web tool for blogging. I am currently using Google blog and I must say I prefer it over some. I do have Tumblr as well. If you are interested in Google blog, it is free and all you need is a Google account. It functions really well and it is easy to use. You can customize it anyway that you would like. I would rate Google blog a 10 overall because the application is really good and easy to use.

*Google Drive
Saving documents
People are always using their phones and tablets in today’s society. Computers are not getting used as much like they used to. People are starting to write their documents on other devices. One way to save the documents would be to use Google drive. It is really convenient and your documents would be save automatically. With Google drive you can pull your account up from anywhere. It has good quality and it is well-developed. People would use the tool to write documents on their phone or tablets. I would recommend it to someone else. Someone recommended it to me and I have not stopped using it ever since.

*Dropbox
Saving documents
Another web 2.0 tool that could be used for saving documents and other material would be dropbox. It is a free application. Dropbox does have packages to where you can buy extra space if necessary. There really are not any issues with dropbox. The only small issue would be that it may take a few minutes to update to the library. I would rate this a 6 because you do have to buy extra space and things do not update immediately. I am not sure if I would recommend this web 2.0 tool to someone else.

*YouTube
Videos
Making videos can be fun. A web 2.0 tool would be YouTube. Everyone is familiar with it. It is free and easy to use. Depending on what you use to update the video, it does take a few minutes to load. That would be the only issues I have with the application. It functions really well and it is well-developed. I would strongly recommend this tool to someone else. I would rate this overall a 10. This could also be used to get tips and ideas about different topics.

*Pixorial
Videos
Another web 2.0 tool for making videos would be Pixorial. It is free and well-developed. So far there are not glitches or issues. I would use this tool to make small videos that I could play around with. I would rate this overall a 6 because I have not been using it long enough to get the full effect. I would recommend this to someone depending on what they are trying to do.

*Picasa
Pictures
People like to have fun with pictures. It is another way to tell an amazing story. A web 2.0 tool to use for editing photos would be Picasa. It is really simple to use. The application is free. It is well-developed and Picasa does not have any issues. I would rate this overall a 10. I actually use this application a lot to do different things with my pictures. I would recommend this web 2.0 tool to someone else.

* Photoshop
Pictures
Photoshop would be another web 2.0 tool used for editing photos. This application is one that people know of. Majority of people who edit pictures use this tool. Photoshop is not easy to figure out. There is a lot of time that has to go into trying to edit the picture the way you would like to. There are different options on how to edit your photo and some go into depth. There are glitches time to time with Photoshop, but nothing to serious. I would recommend this tool to anyone who is up for a challenge. I would rate it overall a 6.

These are just a few Web 2.0 Tools to help get people started when looking for different applications to help them with specific material.
